woodcocks at Cromwell Valley Park

I was at Cromwell on Friday evening 3/19 to look for woodcocks.  I had
the good fortune to run into Georgia and Dan McDonald, who made the
original discovery.  We staked out the large meadow on the east side of
the part (exactly the location described by Francine).  At about 6:45 we
heard one woodcock calling.  It was fun to hear the "peent" call so
close to the city.  Unfortunately, the call stopped in a few minutes,
and there was no aerial display.

Conditions may not have been ideal (there was a bit of wind).  Or
perhaps the courtship is over...
