Today Dave Larkin and I took a trip to Point Lookout and North Beach. We saw a total of 88 birds for the day. We saw 3 species of Warblers and Terns, which made me happy because you can't do that in Harford County right now. Highlights for the day were 28+ Gannets off Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, a Pelican off Point Lookout, a Blue-winged Teal at North Beach, Surf Scoter in the Bay, Caspian, Common, and Forester's Terns at Point Lookout, Purple Martin at Point Lookout, Gnatcatchers at Point Lookout, Thrashers at St. Mary's and Cypress Swamp, and Rusty Blackbird at North Beach. Some oddities ( well to me they are odd) were a Boat-tailed Grackle with Common Grackles alongside the exit ramp to get from Rt. 301 to Rt. 4 in Upper Marlboro and a Wood Duck that seemed to be paired up with a female Mallard at Solomons. The pair spent most of the time underneath the small docks on the left side of the bridge to Solomons Island. This seemed to be an odd place for Wood Duck and it was being very tame. It was a wonderful trip and I can't wait to do it a again. Matt Hafner Bel Air, MD
