Our annual "listening trip" for owls and thrushes attracted a nice crowd this evening. Birds were very vocal at the entrance of Gwynne Acres path (Ellicott city)with COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, CATBIRD and CHICKADEES singing. We were well rewarded with WOOD THRUSHES along the entire route singing beautifully and helping everyone become familiar with their song. The highlight for me was a family of fledgling ACADIAN FLYCATHERS on a branch above the path. Sweet little fuuzy, short tailed babies with the attentive parents nearby. GREAT-CRESTED and PEWEE were heard also. PILEATED, DOWNY and RED-BELLIED WOODPECKERS were heard. Topping it off was a BARRED OWL that responded to my calling with a few "HOOS and WHO COOKS FOR YOUS".
