Hi All: Best count for the season yet, a nice mix of raptors with falcons present, late Broadwings and other buteos beginning to make a push. I suspect that today might have been one of the last major kestrel flights. At times, it was difficult to tally all the birds present, with mixed kettles simultaneously from the north, south and directly overhead, and difficult to make snap IDs on " not sures ."!! Also a challenge separating all the species. I would guess that at least 10% of the birds got by without being counted due to the large numbers appearing all at once. I`ll be the first to admit I`m not a professional counter!! Anyways, below what we did come up with. Mod. wind from NNW , largely overcast at noon, clearing by 2pm. Between noon and 3:30 RT- 14, RS-12, BW-9, SS-87, CH-18, AK- 28, MER-2, TV-23, BE-6, OS-2 UA-7, UR-8 Observers- Leslie/Harry Fisher, Dave Wilson- Ocean City, Steve Thanos-Philly, Elsa- Wilmington and sister Miriam from California. The morning count was reported to be something over 200 birds, no exact report yet, observers Ron K and Charlie Gant. They reported a Common Nighthawk this am as well. This gives us close to 400 for the day, not too shabby. Leslie Fisher Cecil Co.
