Greetings,

At long last I finaly got my boat in the water yesterday afternoon and
promptly boogied down to Turkey Point for the open catch and release season
for rock (Striped Bass for any out of staters). While the fishing wasnt a
total loss I had more fun watching the birds fly around. Being fresh water
we dont get pelicans, gannets, and other southern bay birds but it is still
interesting to see whats out there. Between Hances Point and Red Point on
the North East River I found 12 Common Loons, 1 Red-breasted Merg, 59 D-c.
Cormerants, 1 Herring gull, 3 Great Black-backed Gulls, 16 Ring-billed
Gulls and a moving shorebird flock that I accidently found off in the
distance while scanning with my binos. I couldnt ID them but their flight
behavior reminded more of Dunlin or Sanderling. Further south between Rocky
Point and Turkey Point I found 6 Bonnaparte's Gulls, and 15 or so Tree
Swallows. I am still waiting for the return of terns to Cecil County
waters. I am sure they are here but I have not seen any yet. I plan to
spend most of Saturday fishing so I am sure to see some fun stuff flying
around up here on the bay!

Good Birding,
Chris Starling
