A 45-minute walk around Schoolhouse Pond in Upper Marlboro, PG County, this
morning, from 8:45-9:30 a.m. brought a nice variety of birds and bird types,
with lots of singing and nesting going on:

Osprey (1, flying over the pond)
        Canada Goose (2+)
        Cardinal (4 male, 2 female)
        Mallard (8)
        White-Throated Sparrow (2)
        Gadwall (pair)
Mute Swan (female on nest, male displaying)
        Northern Shoveler (1)
Laughing Gull (approx. 25 overhead. First of year for us)
        Great Blue Heron (1)
        Goldfinch (1 male)
        Carolina Chickadee (2)
        Red-Winged Blackbird (2+)
        Ruby-Crowned Kinglet (1)
Wood Duck (pair. First of year for us)
American Crow (5, around a nest, although not sure it was theirs)
        Turkey Vulture (1)
        Scaup, sp. (pair)
        Red-Bellied Woodpecker (heard)

Back home in Cape St. Claire, the Brown Creeper that had been around much
of the winter and then left was spotted again this week at our suet feeder.
I suppose it could be a different individual, migrating through...
