I recently saw a male mallard that was normal except that instead of red breast feathers it had grey feathers.  The red was completely missing and the grey that replaced it was the same color as the sides of a normal mallard.  Nothing else was different that I noticed.  Is this a normal part of a mallard's molt or is it some sort of hybrid?
