Hi all --
May Day was celebrated by lots of birders and a reasonable number of birds
at Rock Creek Park DC today (picnic areas 17/18, Nature Ctr, maintenance
yard). Still tons of Yellow-rumps around, so it was hard to sort through
them for the "goodies" but quite a good suite was reported amongst all the
watchers:
This is what we saw/heard and after, what was reported by others:
Warblers: Myrtle (~35), Black-and-white (5), Redstart (1), Hooded (2),
Parula (3), Ovenbird (3-4), Black-throated Green (1), Black-throated Blue
(2), Cape May (1), Yellow (1),(& reported by others: Blackburnian,
Blackpoll, Palm, Cerulean).
Other migrants: SUMMER TANAGER (male, first seen by Mike Bowen), Scarlet
Tanager (5), Baltimore Oriole (1), Blue-headed Vireo (1), Yellow-throated
Vireo (1), White-eyed Vireo (1), Red-eyed Vireo (~8), Indigo Bunting (1),
Eastern Kingbird (6), Great Crested FC (1), Acadian FC (2), Yellow-billed
Cuckoo (2), Wood Thrush (2).
Sounds great but I have to admit that a lot of these were heard-only!
(Luckily not the Summer T.)
