Greetings and Happy New Year,

This morning, after arriving at work (Edgewood, APG -harford, co.) at 0600
(arghhh!), We began our daily routine at 0800. While checking out the unit
that I was assigned to I saw my first bird of the year -a lowly Starling
(arghhh, again!). Oh well, perhaps since we share a moniker it was
fitting.?... I then saw a Bluejay, some Canada Geese, a Great Blue Heron,
scores of Ring-bileld Gulls flying by, House Sparrows, Dark-eyed Junco,
Northern Mockingbird, and a nice mix of blackbirds that included Red-
winged, Brown-headed Cowbid, more Starlings... More to come, I am sure...

Last year (yesterday), I spent about 5 minutes looking at gulls in North
East with no luck, though numbers and lighting conditions were great! John
Taylor was there and had a few Lesser Black-backs before I arrived. I also
met two gentleman from Mont. Co., who's names are escaping my memory right
now they had had an Iceland Gull at the Cecil County Landfill earlier...

Good Birding,
Chris Starling
