Hi Folks,

While missing many of the hoped-for specialties during the Baltimore County
Midwinter Count (e.g. pheasant and woodcock), Charlie Kucera and I did pick
up two of the three common owls (Screech and Barred), and nine species of
sparrow, eight of them being found at Southwest Area Park. Besides the
numerous and widespread Songs, White-throats and Juncos, we had Field
Sparrow (6) at UMBC, and Am. Tree (1), Savannah (3), Fox (3), Swamp (1), and
White-crowned (1 imm) at SW Area Park. The N. Harrier continues to cruise
the fields at SWAP. Waterfowl was scarce with all ponds frozen, but the
Patapsco River was partially open in the center, giving us two Hooded
Mergansers, but nothing more.
