An excursion to look for the owls sponsored by Jo Solem and the Howard
County Bird Club on Saturday, February 19th, and led by Jay Sheppard,
yieled 2 SAW-WHET OWLS, probably a female and a male.

The female was spotted in a pine stand along RT 97 just inside Howard
County near the Patuxent State Park parking lot. The male was seen in the
pines off Annapolis Rock Road. Evidence of Long-eared Owls was also found
at the Annapolis Rock Road location.

Marcy,
How was it determined that they were a female and a male (even though I
note you said probably)? Did one respond to tapes and not the other?

Just curious...
