Since no one in Frederick seemed to be looking for the Collared Dove I decided to make the effort this morning. The only doves seen or heard were Mourning Doves. The only active feeder was at 14634 Roddy Road. I also searched some of the other neighborhoods on the north side of Thurmont. The habitat is suitable for Collared Dove or Ringed Turtle Dove. So far I have not seen anything written that positively identifies the bird that was seen as a Collared Dove. I sincerely hope the observers were correct in their identification and that additional information will be submitted to the Records Committee. In the meantime other people should get out there and give it a try, and report their sightings, positive or negative.
Since my route to Thurmont takes me through Creagerstown I made a brief look for the Lapwing, also with no success.
