Encouraged by the Little Gulls being seen at Lapidum, and having shaken off
bad colds caught on our plane home from Bhutan, we ventured up to Back
River, Balto. Co., today to check for Little Gulls.

We were not disappointed, seeing two lovely adult Little Gulls (one starting
to show some summer plumage about the head) among about 200 Bonaparte's
Gulls. Almost all the Bonies (and the Littles) were below the Eastern Ave.
Bridge. We initially scoped from the shore next to the restaurant on the SW
side of the bridge, seeing one Little flying about rather distantly across
the river. Moving across Back River to Cox's Point Park, we had excellent
close views of two birds, both adults in winter plumage, as they flew just
offshore of the piers of the next-door marina.

Almost all the Bonaparte's were still in winter plumage, so the season for
these and Little Gulls is just starting. We will try to make several more
trips up there to see these great little birds.
