Within 30 seconds of refilling the hummngbird feeder today,
I saw a male rubythroat zip up to inspect and then zip away
again. I haven't seen him since. This is the first
time I've had a hummingbird in the spring, so I am happy,
but I wonder why he didn't stick around? I am guessing he's
also attracted to the azaleas right now, and I have a flat of
red impatiens to plant.

Our phoebe is still sitting on the nest--no babies yet, as far as I can tell,
but I did find broken eggshell on the steps beneath the nest. I do hope
she is not brooding a cowbird egg right now.
