I hope that reports of Maryland youth birding teams competing at the World
Series of Birding are not getting too repetitious, because I have one more.

The Merlins (sponsored by Steiner Optics) also had a great day of birding.
Jim Wilson, Ben Thiese, Jessica Voorhis and Hilary Staver spent lots of time
scouting Cape May and a couple of points in Cumberland County. During
scouting, they found 178 different species with highlights being a
Philadelphia Vireo and red-headed woodpeckers at 3 different sites. On the
big day they found 150 species during an exciting and long day of birding.
The summer tanagers scouted at 3 different sites, turned up missing. The
great blue heron spotted at the same pond on two different days, went
elsewhere. (Great blues can be hard to find in Cape May County.) They
heard aBlack Rail at Jakes Landing and found a Wilson's Phalarope at Shell
Pile. All in all, a good time was had by all!
