Blue Mash Nature Trail, Zion Road Section, Montgomery County, 8 Sep 05,
0730-0930

John Combs & I birded the BMNT together this morning. Thirty-four species
observed or heard.

The pond inside the landfill held an immature Black-crowned Night Heron
(BMNT #141), 1-Great Egret, 1-Great Blue Heron, 30-Mallard, 4-Wood Duck &
4-Green-winged Teal. Several Killdeer and a couple of peeps were on the far
shore. The outside pond held 1-Great Blue Heron, 3-Wood Duck and 1-Spotted
Sandpiper.

Excluding commonplace Common Yellowthroat, warblers were few, fleeting, and
furtive. Many empids along the trail with 1-E. Wood Peewee positively ID'd
by voice. Squadrons of Chimney Swift hawked insects overhead during the
walk.
