I birded Loch Raven today with Debbie Terry from 10-1:30 looking for the Eurasian Wigeon which was not in the fishing center cove where it was seen previously. There were four large flocks of waterfowl in the area. One was in the cove by the fishing center. A second was in the next cove to the west (formed by Fitzhugh Run). The third was behind the next peninsula to the west and visible from the end of the old picnic area loop. The fourth was in the next cove to the east (formed by Jenkins Run). The Eurasian Wigeon was in the latter flock. Birds were easily spooked when they were fairly close. Heat shimmer was very bad at a distance. Access: park on Stone Hill Road, walk back to Dulaney Valley Road and go a couple hundred yards west to the gated entrance to the old road that leads south to the old picnic area.
