Northern Rough-winged Swallows

While counting waterfowl at Kirshner's Pond in Frederick County late
yesterday afternoon, I observed two Northern Rough-winged Swallows flying
over the pond. There were no other swallows in the area, and the birds made
several passes over the pond (and over the driveway where I was parked)
before disappearing. Other birds of note included:
Canada Goose - 600+
Tundra Swan - 60
American Wigeon - 1 drake
American Black Duck - 74
Mallard - 35
Green-winged Teal - 7
Ring-necked Duck - 41
Lesser Scaup - 3 hens
Bufflehead - 3
Common Merganser - 6
Ruddy Duck - 5
Ring-billed Gull - 250 flew over heading northeast

Earlier in the day, Marcia Balestri and I birded Lily Pons and the Mouth of
the Monocacy. Birds of note of the 57 species observed at Lily Pons in the
early AM included:
Tundra Swan - 1 + a flyover flock of 5
Wood Duck - at least 25 in various places and flying over
American Wigeon - 10
American Black Duck - 4
Mallard - 8
Green-winged Teal - 6
Hooded Merganser - 9
Common Merganser - 5
Wild Turkey - 1 hen flew over ponds near the main building and landed on
dike along Monocacy River
Great Blue Heron - at least three active nests on the Monocacy at Lily Pons
Road bridge
Greater Yellowlegs -1
Wilson's Snipe - 6
Barred Owl - 1 called from Monocacy floodplain
Tree Swallow - 12, some nest building
Field Sparrow - 10, some singing on territory
Fox Sparrow - 5, some singing males
Song Sparrow - over 50
Swamp Sparrow - 16+
White-throated Sparrow - >40

Highlights at Mouth of the Monocacy included:
Ring-billed Gull - 2 adults
Herring Gull - 2 first winter, 1 adult
Great Black-backed Gull - 2 second winter
