While doing a gardern walk-thru this morning, I heard and saw my first
yard Prairie Warbler.
Yesterday afternoon, I watched 3 male Orchard Orioles chase each other
thru the trees. I do not know if I was imagining it, but they seemed to
be making a different, deeper beating noise with their wings when they
would flutter short distances from one branch to another. I had 5 Orchard
Oriole nests last year in my yard.
On Monday of this week, the male Baltimore Orioles returned. I have 2
singing their hearts out. It is probably just a coincidence, but I first
noticed the one sitting and singing in a tree where last year's nest was
located. When I told my father-in-law (an old-time Eastern Shore farmer)
about the Baltimore Oriole nest in the walnut trees, he responded that
Baltimore Oriole's like to nest in walnut trees. Any truth to this? ...
or just an old farmer's tale?
