Catching up on birding in Carroll County beginning with the bird club field trip to the McKeldin Area of Patapsco Valley SP on Sunday, May 7:
A very good warbler day with 13 species. The only pure migrant warblers were several Black-throated Greens, a few Black-throated Blues, a few Myrtles, a few Common Yellowthroats, and the highlight of the day, a male Blackburnian. Among the breeding warblers we heard one Yellow-throated and two Ceruleans.
On Tuesday, May 9 with the Howard Bird Club at Henryton, one Yellow-throated Warbler was heard across the river in Carroll County.
Today, May 10, at Morgan Run NEA, south area, an outstanding warbler day with 17 species: Blue-winged 7, Golden-winged 1 heard (never seen though I followed it for a half hour), Tennessee 1 heard, Parula 3 heard, Yellow 2, Chestnut-sided 1, Magnolia 2, Myrtle 1, Black-throated Green 1 heard, Prairie 6, Blackpoll 1, Black-&-white 1 heard, Worm-eating 2 heard, Ovenbird 4, Louisiana Waterthrush 3, Yellowthroat 16, and Chat 3. Migrants included 7 Blue Jays, 10 White-throated Sparrows, and 1 Swamp Sparrow.
This afternoon while atlasing in my Reisterstown block I added three more warblers for the day: Redstart 2 heard, Kentucky 1, and Hooded 1.
