Spent about an hour at Violette's Lock between 1 and 2 pm today. Upon
getting out of the car, a Mourning Warbler was calling from woods next
to parking lot. Never saw it unfortunately. I was able to get about 10
feet from the sound and it just clammed up. Waited another 15-20
minutes but never heard it again. Frustrating.
Also, out on the river, about 200 yds north of rapids and about 20 yds
off the VA shore, a single tern (either a Common or Forester's) was
perched on a stick up. Even at 60X it was just to far for me to id to
species level.
Only other bird of note was a Common Nighthawk flying above parking lot
area.
