I'm interested in whether any of you who have been infected had the series of Lyme vaccinations (prior to your first encounter with the culprit)? Does anyone who has had the vaccinations have anything to add? Do they work? And how long is the vaccination good for? My doctor doesn't seem to know whether it's a permanent prophylactic or needs boosters.

Also, taking a shower after being in the woods will help because the tick may not have attached itself yet.

Don't just check yourself, check your pets too! Dog ticks are not carriers, but your doggies may have picked up a deer tick while running around in the woods. Lyme can infect dogs. Or the tick may migrate from the dog to you.
