Three BALD EAGLES were seen at Violette's Lock, C + O Canal, Montgomery County between 6:30 pm and 7:00 pm on Tuesday October 3. 1 immature almost entirely dark; 1 large adult; and 1 smaller adult. The latter put on quite a show, flying high upstream from the dam before diving to the river's surface, with legs extended, then flying slowly for half a mile downstream, just above the surface with legs still extended. Together with brilliant sunset reds and blazing yellow sunrays reflected in the water it was spectacular. Also noted, a fishing OSPREY and a GREAT EGRET. Good birding! - Don Simonson, Darnestown MD
