Hi Folks!
I took Matt's invitation to do some sparrowing in Harford. From 7:00-9:30 I
checked the fields in the Perryman area near Chelsea Road. This is hedgerows,
overgrown field and patches of recently harvested soybean. In the dirt
soybean fields were 2 Horned Lakrs & 14 Killdeer. The hedgerows had:
White-crown Sparrow 28
White-throated Sparrow 6
Song Sparow 14
Swamp Sparrow 12
Chipping Sparrow 6
Field Sparrow 6
Savannah Sparrow 18
Lincoln's Sparrow 3
Yellow Palm Warbler 1
scounting the fields were 3 American Kestrels and a Cooper's Hawk that tried
to grab a Sharp-shinned!
A wood patch had among the chickadees, timice, downies, and cardinals:
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 8
Indigo Bunting 4
Swan Harbor was nice, but after tromping in the marsh cell [in several places
almost to my knees in water] I failed to find a Nelson's Sparrow or a bittern
or any rail, but there were:
Green-winged Teal 41
Blue-winged Teal 1
Lesser Yellowlegs 2
Pectoral Sandpiper 1
Wilson's Snipe 8
Tree Swallow 20
Horned Lark 4
Western Palm Warbler 1
Savannah Sparrow 12
Swamp Sparrow 16
Song Sparrow 24
Bobolink 3
The wind was gusty by 12:30, so I called it a day.
Good Birding!
