My copy of the American Birds write-up on last year's 106th Christmas Bird
Count arrived in today's mail. Norm's regional summary (starting on p. 62)
features George Jett's close-up of the wonderful Townsend's Warbler found on
the Sugarloaf Mountain CBC. Disappointingly, all photos inside the
publication are B&W only.
A quick scan of the "Summary of Highest Counts of Individuals for the United
States" shows that Maryland CBCs ranked #1 for several species:
* Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (Seneca)
* Hairy Woodpecker (Seneca)
* Brown Creeper (Seneca)
* Eastern Towhee (Bowie)
* Savannah [Ipswich] Sparrow (Ocean City)
* White-throated Sparrow (Bowie)
There may be others I missed. By the way, the Monterey Peninsula Count in
California led with 699 Townsend's Warblers. Guess we know where #700 went!
