Late yesterday afternoon (29 Oct), I got to bird along River Road and in the woods near White's Ferry. Was there until it got too dark to see. Some highlights follow, in no particular order:

a beautiful male Kestrel on a wire along River Road
a Northern Harrier hovering over a field
two Great Blue Herons
the most exciting - a flock of about three dozen Rusty Blackbirds
Ruby-crowned and Golden-crowned Kinglets
great looks at two Pileated Woodpeckers
a very yellow Eastern Phoebe
three Winter Wrens
Great Horned Owls vocalizing in the distance

The blackbirds were down by the water along the old towpath and flushed as we went by.

P.S. A huge, noisy flock of Common Grackles just swooped into the trees and fallen leaves on the ground and then just as swiftly, they are gone. Also, a Winter Wren just peeked in the window as it hunted in corners for spiders. First yard Junco of season was yesterday.
