Curiously, I just had a similar experience just this morning.
That Cat got one of 'my' titmice, I found it right away, but alas, still too late and as I carried the poor little guy across the yard to 'dispose' of him/her, I was chewed out by several titmice in the tree in the yard - one in particular got right down on the fence in front of me - to make sure, one could suppose, that I heard? They were definitely looking at me and dressing me down.
I've noticed Blue Jays call a particular and sad sounding too-lool call after a mate or perhap a member of the clan? has met an untimely end (due a hawk once, and once after Ernesto when one of 'my jays;' went missing)
I dont' know what to do about That Cat; she is old, cold and hungry, she is not exactly a stray, but she has lousy humans - they never seem to let her in the house no matter how nasty it is outside nor do they appear to feed her (that could be a con job, I know). I've been feeding her with the hope that if not hungry she will be less inclined to kill the birds...Sadly, I think she was bringing it to me...she'd put it where I put her food and she didn't eat it.. GUILT GUILT GUILT. I hope she was the culprit, I threw water on her and chased her away...

Tragically, and not without irony (having just posted about
preventing bird strikes), a Hermit Thrush just fatally
struck one of our unprotected breakfast room windows. This
was a window facing the street, on the opposite side of the

Is any organization likely to want the specimen? There are
no leg bands or anything like that.
Immediately after the bird fell to the ground, a mockingbird
approached it making a loud "check" call and flicking its
wings. It continued this for a while and then jumped onto
the thrush and back off, as if to see if it was still alive.
Has anyone noted this type of behaviour before?
