A Phoebe can have a bright yellow breast, all the way up to the throat? AH HA! That must have been what I really saw at Rose Haven beach a few weeks ago - what I thought was a Great Crested Flycatcher (which was kind of dumb considering tail wasn't quite right and no grey throat but X Kingbird was even dumber) The bright a yellow breast and belly threw me - definitely not the 'slight yellow wash' noted in my guides. Is that a local variation or is the yellow that variable in general? It was definitely not a 'plain bird' - very pretty.

The consensus appears to be E. PHOEBE.
The clear cream/yellow breast was the feature that
immediately caught my attention even without bins from
a distance of 50+ yards away. My field guide
(Robbins) didn't seem to emphasize the yellow breast
in the imm., but others are telling me that (bright
yellow coloration) isn't a problem for an imm. Phoebe.
As for size, as I said, that's always a tough call
for me. I could only specify easily less than 7 in.
to eliminate W. Kingbird, but my bird could easily
have been Phoebe sized.
No replies were received concerning the blue-banded
Junco (imm. i'm guessing) in my original ms...
