On Saturday morning, I did not find the Eurasian Collared-doves on Hooper
Island Rd in Dorchester County. Consolation birds for my efforts were 6 Brown
Pelicans, 6 Dunlin, and 3 Sanderlings.
I then headed down to Somerset County. At Wellington WMA, I saw a House
Wren, a Hermit Thrush, an Eastern Phoebe, and a Brown Thrasher. I decided
to leave when I also saw a crew of teen hunters.
Last stop was Deal Island, where the water was mostly frozen. Highlights
included a Fox Sparrow, 8 Tricolored Herons, and a Wilson's Snipe. I ended
the day shortly after 4pm with beautiful views of a Short-eared Owl in the late
afternoon light.
