Hi All,

Nancy and I had retail duty at The Lodge at Eastern Neck NWR today (27
Jan). The waterfowl are spectacular right now, with lots of scaup (900+
of both species, Greater appears to be in the majority), Canvasback
(400), Tundra Swans (400), Common Goldeneye (100), Bufflehead (150),
black ducks (200), and Red-breasted Mergansers (144 today). Other
waterbirds included 30 pintail, 4 Gadwall , a Double-crested Cormorant,
and 12 Common Loons. Among the landbirds we had 2 Cooper's Hawks, a
harrier (Marsh Overlook Trail behind The Lodge), a CHIPPING SPARROW
(behind The Lodge), and four BROWN-HEADED NUTHATCHES along the main road
about a quarter-mile to 3/10 of a mile north of the Bogle's Wharf turn.

We took a quick look in the 5:30 PM gloamin' at the Fish Hatchery Pond
on Fish Hatchery Road north of Fairlee. There were at least 150
Ring-necked Ducks and 20 Green-winged Teal there. It is possible that
the Eurasian Teal frozen-out of Great Oak Pond might have moved to this
location.

On Friday (26 Jan) Nancy had an EASTERN PHOEBE on Elbon Rd here at
Chesapeake Landing.

Good birding,
