I was fortunate to be able to spend a good part of the
day hiking on South Mtn from Gathland Park to Weverton
Cliffs. Seen/heard were:

W Breasted Nuthatches - abundant
Tufted Titmice
Downey and perhaps Hairy Woodpecker
Red Bellied Woodpecker
Pileated Woodpecker
Carolina Wren
Vultures (not sure if Turkey or Black now that i think
about it)
Some kind of gull seen above the Potomac at the Cliffs
Two (a pair?) of Ravens

Only a few (3) kinds of wildflowers were to be seen.
Also present were several individual black and orange
butterflies and one squashed damsel fly who had the
bad luck to light on the trail just ahead of a hikers
boot step - hope not mine, but can't be sure...
