Rock Creek Park, DC, field trip. April 26, 6:50 am to
9:50 am.
Weather: about 50 F/10 C, cloudy, with a light breeze
out of the north or east, throughout the trip. About
10 drops of rain. Five participants and the leader.
The species total didn't seem high because of the low
numbers of most species, but 48 species were
encountered. Highlights include a singing male
Blue-winged Warbler, two singing male Rose-breasted
Grosbeaks, two visible and silent loons and one
invisible vocal loon, and congregations of
goldfinches, White-throated Sparrows, and robins. A
vocal White-eyed Vireo finally allowed itself to be
seen. A Baltimore Oriole chorused high in a tree. We
missed the Palm Warbler that other birders saw.
