I spent a short while up at Rock Creek this morning. Much less around than Wednesday. But there was a cooperative male BAY-BREASTED WARBLER up at the Nature Center. Earlier on at the Ridge there were singing Nashville and Blackburnian, along with both Black-throateds, Black-and-White, Magnolia, Redstart and Parula. Chestnut-sided Warblers were relatively well in attendance, 3 or 4 in total at the Stables, the Maintenance Yard and the Nature Center. A Hooded Warbler sang a couple of times in the woods between the Yard and the Nature Center, and Ovenbird were quite prominent.

Aside from warblers, there was an immature male Orchard Oriole at the Ridge, as well as an aggressive Great-crested Flycatcher, at least 3 Blue-headed Vireo, and small numbers of Scarlet Tanager and Baltimore Oriole and a couple of flyover Common Loon.

Where are the thrushes? I have only had Wood Thrush so far this spring at Rock Creek.

Did not get a chance to compare notes with others so perhaps there were other warblers or migrants seen?

  Regards
