Yesterday morning when we woke up there was a
noticeable absence of any thrush songs other than the
local Wood Thrushes. This morning was the same. We
still have some Blackpolls but the diversity took a
big drop overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. I guess the
south winds were too good to be true for the neotrops!

BTW, we seem to have a pair of House Wrens staking out
our yard. I know they're relatively common elsewhere
in Maryland but we have a bugger of a time finding
them on May Count and only had them as a probable in
one of three atlas blocks in Calvert and St. Mary's.
Too bad they didn't do this last year.

Interestingly, one of them, we think the male, is
missing a substantial amount of belly feathers. He
looks almost black on the right side of his belly.
This makes it easy to tell the two birds apart. He
particularly likes to perch in a small holly, about 4
feet tall, that died for some unknown reason since
late winter. It's right near a bird house and we'd be
very happy if they liked it enough to nest there. That
way we could keep tabs on them.
