Late yesterday morning (about 11:20) I stopped by Schoolhouse
Pond in Upper Marlboro and located the immature Black-crowned
Night Heron that was reported by Fred Shaffer on July 2. As Fred
described, it was roosting in a small willow on the west side of the
pond - in what has apparently become its regular spot, judging from
the amount of whitewash on the Virginia creeper below it. The best
viewing location is near the small boardwalk that branches off from
the main boardwalk to go up to the townhouse office buildings.
