Hi all
A week ago, I looked out of the window of my office at the church and I saw
an immature Red-shouldered Hawk perched on a power line in the neighbor's
back yard. Then, the following day, I saw the bird again, this time perched
with its wings hanging in a half-outstretched drooping position. I wondered
whether it was trying to dissipate heat on that hot afternoon. A day or so
later, I saw it flying through the neighbor's back yard, swooping (to catch
something?) and landing in a lower bush. This morning, as I left the office
for a meeting, I saw it in a secluded alley munching on something or other.
It flushed as I drove by. Of course, I didn't get an adequate look to ensure
that these were four sightings of the same individual, but that seems likely
since this was the first RSHA I've seen out of the office window in many
years. (I've seen one or two circling above the church in the 19 years I've
been here, but never one getting down on my level.)
I hope that the hawk likes the neighborhood enough to come back, and maybe
settle here.
