Hi all,
Once again I had some business in Montgomery County so I put in 1 1/2 hrs
of birding at Blue Mash. The ponds are both nearly dried up, but the big one
inside the landfill fence still held some goodies. An immature Little Blue
Heron was species # 172 for me here, and it was joined by a pair of Great Blues
and a Great Egret. Lots of shorebirds still present too, mostly Least
Sandpipers, but also Pectoral, Semipalmated, both yellowleg species, and Killdeer.
A Spotted Sandpiper was at the small pond as was a Green Heron. I also saw at
least 2 Magnolia Warblers, and a Northern parula, as well as a pair of
Red-eyed Vireos and White-eyed Vireos too. And a Sharp-shinned Hawk flew over the
big pond and across the field.
