Fort Smallwood Bird Walk Results: 11/17/07

Hello all.

Eight of us gathered for a walk that turned up a few really good birds. Most 
exciting were several Long-tailed Ducks, 2 Common Loons and a Sharp-
shinned Hawk. Good totals and good weather.

Species Seen/Heard:

Common Loon: 2 spotted on the Patapsco
Double-crested Cormorant
Great Blue Heron
Canada Goose
Mallard
Hooded Merganser: 12 on the pond
Lesser Scaup: 1 bird mixed with Buffleheads
Scaup sp. undiff.
Bufflehead
Long-tailed Duck
Ring-billed Gull
Herring Gull
Great Black-backed Gull
Black Vulture: seen later in the day
Turkey Vulture: seen later in the day
Bald Eagle: one 4th year, seen later in the day
Northern Harrier: low flight over the beach
Sharp-shinned Hawk: provided excellent views
