Re: Tundra Swans over DC last night

Just now, flying very low (cloud cover tonite) and being quite vocal was a
flock of 40 Tundra swans directly over my property on their way to the
Potomac to follow it to the Bay.  I never see swans on the river up here, so
it's my opinion that they won't stop until they get there.  Magnificent!  

Interestingly enough, all of my reference books, both the general,
"layman's" accounts, and the more ornithological publications espouse that
"Tundra swans migrate chiefly by day...".  Well, I am here to pronounce, in
my usual humble way, that they are wrong, and the field observer (me) is
right.  The vast majority of them migrate at night on their fall trips.
