I spent about an hour today scanning the Potomac from the Piscataway Park boardwalk and found 13 species of waterfowl:
   
  Snow Goose (fly-over)
  Canada Goose
  American Wigeon
  Gadwall
  Mallard
  American Black Duck (single bird)
  Northern Shoveler
  Canvasback (2 male, 1 female)
  Ring-necked Duck
  Bufflehead
  Hooded Merganser (one pair)
  Red-breasted Merganser (single female)
  Ruddy Duck
   
  Other birds seen:
   
  Pied-billed Grebe
  Double-crested Cormorant
  Great Blue Heron
  Bald Eagle
  American Coot (single bird)
  Ring-billed Gull
  Belted Kingfisher
  Downy Woodpecker
