Birded this morning west of Columbia in Howard County. Many areas seemed
quiet but I saw several large flocks of robins with a few waxwing fellow
travelers. A female American Kestrel was perched on top of a small tree along
Old Frederick Road between routes 32 and 97. The best area was the brushy
west end of Western Regional Park where there were two groups of feeding
birds. One was in the area below the farthest ballfields where the Tree and
Fox Sparrows were along with many Song Sparrows, towhees, Field Sparrows
and a single Swamp Sparrow. Another group was around the stormwater pond
next to the woods where I saw more Field Sparrows, White-throated
Sparrows, a towhee, a Yellow-rumped Warbler and heard a Brown Creeper.
