Hope you all aren't growing too weary of crossbill posts, but I thought the following observation may be of use to those that have yet to visit. Over the last 3 weeks that he has been seen regularly at my house, the most reliable times have been 7:30am until mid-morning sometime. After that, he is spotty throughout the remainder of each day. One interesting exception to all this...he is either rarely seen, or not seen at all, on very windy days (e.g., today he appeared only once, and not until 1:30pm). Not sure why, but for whatever reason he tends to stay away from the feeder on windy days.

Also, I've been doing Project FeederWatch for the Cornell Lab since November...it's been pretty fun putting WWCR on my list each week! During this time, I've also had brown creeper, red-breasted nuthatch, and purple finch in the yard. No pine siskins, unfortunately.

"There are some who can live without wild things, and some who cannot...like winds and sunsets, wild things were taken for granted until progress began to do away with them. Now we face the question whether a still higher 'standard of living' is worth its cost in things natural, wild, and free. For us of the minority, the opportunity to see geese is more important than television, and the chance to find a pasque-flower is a right as inalienable as free speech."
