Horned larks & thermaling (?) gulls in S FRED Co

On Sunday two Horned Larks were in the gravel lot of
the Seventh Day Adventist Church near Burkittsville.  

Also Sunday i noticed a flock of 20+/- gulls flying
from the south.  They were high enough that it wasn't
possible to ID them, although i assumed they were
Ring-billed.  What was surprising was that they seemed
to catch a thermal and ride it up before returning to
their N flight.  I hadn't observed this behavior in
gulls before.

Among the feeder birds absence of the RB nuthatch was
most notable, although i may have missed it...
