John,
When I signed up for the new email account (I have another one but it gets too many garbage messages) on Yahoo.com yesterday, the site claimed that the only way that I could acccess the pop servers was to upgrade to the 'plus' account. Once I did so, I was able to access the pop3 server without anything other than setting up the links in Outlook Express. There are many different email programs available for processing the information once downloaded, my issue was with getting the email from the server. According to what you said and what I read on the site it looks like the YPOPs program does the trick without the fee. I'll have to download it and give it a try. ALthough Norm states that the problem may have been resolved with Comcast, I think I'll stick with the new account and take advantage of the other benefits as well. Thanks for the link.

Ed:

There are freeware utilities that provide an interface between mail servers
(e.g. Yahoo Mail or Gmail) and MS Outlook.  One example is "YPOPs! 0.9.6
Alpha 1" available at "www.majorgeeks.com" specifically downloads Yahoo mail
to MS Outlook.

Yesterday, after this happened, I created a new ID on Yahoo.com and
subscribed that way. One problem with Yahoo.com is if you want to utilize a
program like Outlook or Outlook Express (which I use), you must sign up for
the 'plus' member ship @ $20 per year to be able to have the rights to get
to the pop3 server and have the mail program download the emails and remove
them from the Yahoo site. I haven't looked at Google's email site to see if
theirs is more user friendly by not having to pay the fee, but it's worth a
check. I chose to sign-up for the plus membership because with it, you can
also access the email on your cellphone through <m.yahoo.com/mail> and get
reports (and send reports) while in the field. Again, the same ability may
exist with gmail (Google Mail) without the fees, but I didn't check. I
avoided Hotmail because Norm said that they use the same filter service as
Comcast and we'd have the same issues with that one.

NORM - Would you please advise if any of the free email services have the
same issues as Comcast, MSN and Hotmail so that we may avoid them as well?

I had exactly the same thing happen.  Additionally, I didn't notice that I
was missing any messages for the period noted.  Since Comcast is blaming the

sender and MDOSPREY is blaming comcast, I couldn't do anything but
resubscribe and hope for the best.  I really hope it doesn't happen again.
