Having missed yesterday's BBC trip to the fields of Carroll County, I took
Father's Day morning to do some solo birding in the central and NW part of
Carroll and a tiny piece of eastern Frederick. My goals were to see if I could
fill some annoying holes in my Carroll list, find a RH Woodpecker for my
Frederick list, and finally get a FOY Vesper Sparrow. It was a fun morning, with
only Bobolink eluding me. Below are some highlights.
Mute Swan - pair, Liberty Reservoir at Bollinger Mill Road
Red-headed Woodpecker - 2; 1 Otterdale Mill Road (Carroll), 1 Hiney Road at
the shady stream crossing just NE of Legore Road (Frederick)
Willow Flycatcher - 1, Morgan Run NEA (Carroll)
Warbling Vireo - 1, Rockland Road (Carroll)
Horned Lark - 1, heard only, Jasontown Road (Carroll)
Brown Thrasher - 1, Keysville Road (Carroll)
Blue-winged Warbler - 1, singing on territory, Morgan Run
Yellow Warbler - 1, Rockland Road X Roops Mill Road (Carroll)
Prairie Warbler - 8, Morgan Run
Worm-eating Warbler - 1, Bollinger Mill Road
Ovenbird - 1, Bollinger Mill Road
Hooded Warbler - 1, heard from parking lot at Bollinger Mill
Yellow-breasted Chat - 3, Morgan Run
Vesper Sparrow - 2; 1 heard only, Jasontown Road; 1 Sixes Bridge Road
(Carroll)
