Dave et. al.
I have a simple question for you-do you know the alternate song
(referred to as Type B) of the parula? I don't think it is on any of the
bird song software. It is very similar to the Cerulean Warbler's song. In
the many hours I surveyed this area for ceruleans I often had trouble
distinguishing the two. This is why early in the nesting season I tried to
see the singer to confirm that it was a cerulean.
As far as the area is concerned- this is part of my main birding
area and until 2006 Cerulean Warblers were a given east of Sycamore Landing
starting at milepost 27. I am unaware of any records in 2007. This year I
spent time early in the nesting season looking for ceruleans here, but
couldn't find any. I also didn't find any in the McKee-Beshers area on my
recently completed breeding bird surveys.
