This is the Voice of the Naturalist, a service of the Audubon 
Naturalist Society. This report was completed Tuesday, July 8, at 
8:00  a.m. 

Top bird this week is LITTLE EGRET* in DE. 

Other birds of interest include CANVASBACK, LESSER SCAUP, RUDDY DUCK,
ANHINGA*, CATTLE EGRET, WHITE IBIS, MERLIN, MARBLED GODWIT, SANDWICH
TERN, ALDER FLYCATCHER, CLIFF SWALLOW, and RED CROSSBILL.

The LITTLE EGRET* continued at Shearness Pool, Bombay Hook NWR, Kent
Co, DE. It was seen on July 5, 6, and 7.

A drake CANVASBACK was found at Pinewood Lake, Alexandria, VA on July
3. Two LESSER SCAUP and a RUDDY DUCK were observed on Belmont Bay,
Fairfax Co, VA on July 6.

A female ANHINGA* was seen on Lake Maury, Mariner's Museum Park,
Newport News, VA on July 4.

Ten CATTLE EGRETS were found on the corner of MD Rt 3 and St Stephens
Church Road in Anne Arundel Co, MD on July 5. Another was seen in the
county near Chesapeake High School on July 5.

An immature WHITE IBIS was seen in the borrow pit along Rt 50 west of
Salisbury, Wicomico Co, MD on July 4 and 5.

A MERLIN graced the lacrosse field at Johns Hopkins University,
Baltimore, MD on July 2.

Fourteen MARBLED GODWITS were found on one of the small islands behind
Chincoteague, Accomack Co, VA on July 4.

Two SANDWICH TERNS were seen at the point in Cape Henlopen SP, Sussex
Co, DE on July 4.

The ALDER FLYCATCHER continues to sing near the short boardwalk at
Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, Washington DC.

A CLIFF SWALLOW is frequenting the area around a gas station at 523 S
Main St., Federalsburg, Caroline Co, MD. It may represent the first
nesting record for the county.

A RED CROSSBILL was coming to a feeder at Bear Mountain Farm in
Highland Co, VA on July 2.
