This morning I did a little birding in and around Baltimore. The
highlight of this trip was watching an adult BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT
HERON fishing from the old concrete pier that is just south of the
fishing pier at Fort Armistead Park. The heron spent several long
minutes perched inside one of the tractor tires hanging from the
side of the pier. Then it dipped down into the water, caught a
fish, and flew up to the pier to swallow it.

Other highlights, at Southwest Area Park, were a male BLUE GROSBEAK
on the loop trail, a young BROWN THRASHER (drinking from a puddle
at the intersection of the two roads), and 10 GREAT EGRETS feeding
in the pond to the right of the road to the boat ramp.
