This is an interesting web site for sunflower growers:

The actual price per hundredweight for sunflower seeds has dropped .... May
27 = $29.50 .......... July 24 = $27.60
This is the market report from July 24:

MARKETS:
The market has been in a downward spiral lately. On the CBoT, soyoil has
been very weak despite higher crude petroleum oil values. The weakness in
soyoil [soybean oil] is pressuring soybeans along with good weather
conditions. Disappointing export sales and general improvement in USDA crop
ratings have also continued to pressure commodities in the past few trading
days. Losses on the CBoT have sent old and new crop sunflower prices lower
in the past two weeks. As long as favorable weather continues it is expected
that the market will trend sideways to lower for the near term. Old crop
sunflower supplies are drawing down with good demand from confection
processors, crushers and bird seed buyers."
The bird seed we are buying now is still from last year's crop and the price
is high. It will be interesting to see how the new crop prices out.
I just paid $20 for 2 ripped 25 pound bags. Ask about ripped bags to save
some money.
