On Saturday, September 13th 2008 the Cromwell Valley Park HawkWatch will begin another season of observing and recording migrant raptors as they head south. Of particular interest this time of year are the often spectacular flights of Broad-winged hawks. Here at CVP we average about 2,500 BW hawks per year, and from Sept. 13th through Sept. 23rd we plan on manning the watch site from 8:30am until late afternoon each day. We encourage birders of all levels to grab a lawn chair, pack a picnic lunch and sunscreen, and join us for a relaxing day on the hill side. With some patience and a little luck, one of nature's most impressive migratory events can be seen right here over Towson!

Each evening I will try to post our numbers here on MDOSPREY as well as HAWKCOUNT.ORG in order to track the progress of the Broad-winged hawks.

Saturday the 13th will begin at 8:00 am with a short bird walk along the stream as we look for migrant songbirds, ending up at the HawkWatch site by 9:30 to search for the hawks.
